Quick backstory, I lost my grandmother to pneumonia a few years back. It all happened very abruptly and sadly my grandmother never got the chance to tell us how she wanted her departure to be dealt with.
One of the biggest challenges for my family back then was to give her a proper send-off and disagreements on the ‘ideal’ funeral were bound to happen. Especially when you have 5 children who all have their own ideas on what’s best for their mother.
So naturally, one of the major problems I wanted Bereev to solve was how do we get people to think about their own death and figure out the type of send-off they would prefer. If we were to succeed in doing this, it would kill not 2 but 3 birds with 1 stone.
💪🏻 Take Charge of Your Own Death
You’ll have full control over the type of wake or funeral that would fulfil your wishes, personal preferences and religious beliefs.
🕊 Unburden Your Loved Ones
Having to make tough decisions at a time when they’re in no shape to do so often leads to an even more traumatic experience for your loved ones. >30% of people who have lost someone they love show signs of PTSD.
🙂 Avoid Unnecessary Arguments
Imagine having 5 children who each believe that they know what’s best for you. At times like this, wouldn’t we prefer to see our loved ones united and supportive of each other?
The solution is simple, think about it and plan ahead. We take pride in taking charge of our lives, why not for death too?
How to plan your funeral on Bereev?
1 – Go to Departure
Head over to Departure from the navigation bar.
2 – Broken Down
Departure planning is split into 2 phases, first with Departure Details where you can decide how you want your body to be dealt with. And 葬礼, where you can plan out the entire ceremony.
3 – Handling Your Body
Under Departure Details, decide if you prefer to be buried or cremated. Specify if you’ve purchased a resting spot such as a burial plot or an urn niche. You can even prepare what you want to be written on your tombstone.
4 – Budget
Next, we’ll ask if you’ve set aside some money to help your family with the funeral expenses (dying is NOT cheap).
5 – Planning the Ceremony
Head to 葬礼 to specify if you want the ceremony to be handled according to your religious beliefs, the ideal location for the wake, if you have any preference for the F&B served during the ceremony, your favourite flowers and more.
6 – Viewing Preferences
Do you want an open casket where people can see you? Do you have a favourite outfit you want to be dressed in? Or do you have any other wishes that we haven’t covered?
7 – Guest List
Your family may not know who to inform or how to get in touch with your friends, colleagues or whomever you would like to have during your final send-off. Guide them by creating a guest list for your funeral.
Voila! You now have your very own funeral plan on Bereev. You might think that you’re too young to be planning for your own funeral but think again, life is filled with uncertainties and surprises. I’m turning 29 years old this year and I’ve already prepared mine, so what’s your excuse?
